Stay tuned for new self-serve functionality added to Game Server Hosting (Multiplay), and the introduction of our new rule-based Matchmaker – both are included as part of Unity Gaming Services.

Building a highly scalable, server-authoritative, cost-efficient, and engaging multiplayer experience presents a list of challenges for most developers. That’s why Unity is bringing Multiplay and Matchmaker to developers of all sizes to help them connect and scale their multiplayer titles.

Unity’s Game Server Hosting (Multiplay) and Matchmaker services are used by some of the most successful AAA multiplayer studios, such as Respawn (Apex Legends), and Innersloth (Among Us) to name a few. We are delighted to bring these powerful tools to studios big and small around the globe.

What's coming

Game Server Hosting (Multiplay) and Matchmaker are launching self-serve functionality to bring battle-tested, AAA multiplayer services to developers of all sizes.

This means that developers will now be able to activate and configure Game Server Hosting (Multiplay) and Matchmaker from within the Unity Dashboard.

Here’s a quick look at what this means for developers.

Game Server Hosting (Multiplay) will provide:

  • A guided self-serve experience to help developers on how to get up and running fast and through the nuances of setting up a dedicated game server.
  • An engine agnostic solution designed from the ground up to host games built in most engines, providing immersive experiences to players on most platforms across the globe.
  • Easy integration with Unity and Unreal engine packages to standardize integrating game server runtime with Game Server Hosting (Multiplay) and Matchmaker.

Matchmaker will provide you with:

  • A guided self-serve experience to allow easy configuration of game modes with queues and player segmentation with pools.
  • Flexibility to group players together based on the game design goals, such as skill, experience, toxicity, party-size, roles, etc.
  • Simple server allocation that interops directly with Game Server Hosting (Multiplay) to enable the fastest way to get up and running on server allocation management.
