Our very own Antonia Forster, senior XR technical specialist at Unity, will showcase the LGBTQ+ VR Museum she and her co-creator Thomas Terkildsen built using Unity. Antonia has put in countless hours on top of her full-time job to bring this critical project to life.

The LGBTQ+ VR Museum is the world's first virtual museum dedicated to preserving the personal histories of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people.

The museum contains 3D scans of meaningful, real-life objects chosen by people in the LGBTQ+ community, along with the powerful Memorial to a Marriage created by acclaimed New York artist Patricia Cronin. Memorial to a Marriage is a monument dedicated to marriage equality, acknowledging the 1,200+ rights heterosexual marriage affords that have historically been denied to LGBTQ+ people around the world.

ReachYou by Katrina Goldsaito and Jonah Goldsaito

ReachYou is an augmented reality (AR) experience that encourages audiences to reflect on what they appreciate most about Earth, hear transmissions from a future when the planet is no longer habitable, and consider the actions we can take now to protect our pale blue dot.

The project invites participants to share stories of grief and gratitude to create a global record of our shared humanity. In addition to the world premiere at Tribeca’s Immersive Exhibition, attendees can experience new transmissions and activations throughout the event venues. Through deepening our connections to one another, the ReachYou creators are hoping to encourage introspection in pursuit of a brighter future.

“Mushroom Cloud is a project focused on accountability; one that values sharing and conserving resources, and strengthening networked systems through participation, communication, and advocacy.– Nancy Baker Cahill

The Mushroom Cloud NYC / RISE AR experience by artist Nancy Baker Cahill is a call for climate change action. The project acknowledges the impending crisis while offering hope that, through cooperative and constructive measures, a vibrant future can still be possible.

During the Tribeca Festival, a custom, geo-located edition of this experience will be available to show audiences what a mushroom cloud explosion could be like, urging them to consider how we might model our collective survival on nature. The project is especially relevant to New York City – a city vulnerable to climate impacts given rising sea levels. Be sure to check out its world premiere on June 9.

See you there!

We’re grateful to all the artists using their creativity to drive awareness and change, every day.
