On a deadline to create a high-end product demo? Not sure how different lighting setups or the High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP) will work? For any technical artist, visualization specialist, or 3D generalist, starting a project with a template makes all the difference.
The Auto Showroom Sample Template, available in Preview in the Unity Hub, is a fantastic starting point for showcasing any product – and to give you a leg up, we’ve included a real vehicle inside.
In partnership with Volvo Cars, we’ve provided a true-to-life, real-time 3D model of the Volvo XC40 Recharge, including both the interior and exterior of this fully electric SUV. The model is also featured on Volvo Cars’ new Innovation Portal, which includes free resources and tools for developers to create new innovative services and in-car apps for Volvo’s cars.
“At Volvo Cars, we believe in knowledge sharing and we hope our work inspires changes for a better future and contributes to safer roads for all,” said Timmy Ghiurau, Innovation Leader, Virtual Experiences at Volvo Cars. “Together with Unity, we’re excited to showcase the amazing experiences that are possible with real-time 3D technology in automotive and beyond.”

The Auto Showroom Sample Template is available on Unity 2019 LTS (15f1-19f1) and 2020 LTS and, like all sample templates, will be supported on future LTS releases. Just launch the Unity Hub and start a new project to load the sample template. Then follow the step-by-step tutorials that guide you through the creative process.
You can also stream the template from your web browser using Unity’s Furioos cloud streaming service. This template requires mouse and keyboard inputs, and your session time will be limited to 5 minutes.

The sample template is a sandbox for seeing how vehicles and other products look in a wide range of environments and lighting conditions. It opens as an interior showroom space with the Volvo XC40 Recharge.
Like all sample templates, it ships with optimized Unity project settings. In this case, it’s set up with physically correct lighting through the use of light props and correct exposure settings that simulate a daytime interior. Reflections and shadowing on the car are also true-to-life and adjust in real-time.
The sample template includes three lighting themes and environments (Luxury, Photostudio, Light Installation) commonly used for vehicle presentations.
Each high-fidelity environment is professionally crafted to showcase the power of Unity and Unity’s High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP).
This sample template uses HDRP to deliver performant powerful high-fidelity visuals on high-end platforms. HDRP lets you push your graphics to achieve a realistic look in the most varied scenarios. The sample template lets you experiment with different HDRP parameter settings such as light types, shadows, and screen space effects.
The template comes with a prefab of the Volvo XC40 Recharge with optimized setup and scripts, as an example of how easily you can create and modify high-quality visuals in a real-time environment.
It also includes interactive controls to stage a vehicle photoshoot. The user interface lets you adjust lighting themes, paint color, vehicle lights, doors, and cameras. After you’ve set up your shot, you can snap a picture. We invite you to share your creations and use the hashtag #madewithunity on social media.
