The new version of Unity Reflect Review makes it easier to share and access models with project stakeholders and improves large model performance by up to 10 times.
Unity Reflect Review enables architects and designers to easily import design models into an immersive experience, including in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), to facilitate interactive design reviews, communicate effectively, and collaborate with project stakeholders. Bring Revit, BIM 360, Navisworks, SketchUp, and Rhino projects into real-time 3D for multiuser collaboration on any device, anywhere.
We continue to improve Unity Reflect Review and implement the most requested features. In July, we added annotations, “follow mode,” and link sharing, integrated with Unity’s High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP); and improved model optimization. We’re excited to release new features and improvements to help the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry avoid costly mistakes and drive faster alignment.
The existing tabletop AR mode requires users to align a model every time a session is started. Marker-based AR gives you the ability to create a QR marker in your 3D model that can be printed and scanned with a mobile device or tablet for instant model loading in the real world. No more having to align the model yourself. The markers are deep links, meaning a user can scan a marker from their phone’s camera to open a link as if they had clicked on a share link.
“Presentation mode” enables architects to conduct an interactive design review and have stakeholders automatically follow the leader’s view. Unlike follow mode, which lets you follow a specific user’s view, presentation mode makes it so that everyone in the model sees your camera view and sees what you’re seeing in real-time.
Previously, for an architect to share a project model with a client, the client would need to create a Unity ID to view it. We’ve added the ability to share and access models with project stakeholders, without having to log in with a Unity ID. If a user is not logged in when they open a model, they can still view the project in read-only mode as a guest.
Improving large models has been one of our biggest priorities. In the last Unity Reflect Review update, we started leveraging Pixyz technology to ensure all models are automatically optimized to improve performance and load times.
With this update to Unity Reflect Review, large models now perform up to 10 times faster. We did this by implementing an Actor System and hierarchical level of detail (HLOD).
The Actor System allows the Unity Reflect data pipeline to be multithreaded and load items in parallel to leverage the device’s horsepower when it has multiple cores. The result is faster loading times and a more stable experience. With HLOD, when a model is far away, it is displayed as a single large object. As the user moves closer, the model breaks apart into its components, dramatically reducing the number of batches while preserving the granularity of select individual objects.
Unity Reflect Collaborate is a view-only version of Unity Reflect Review for project stakeholders to view, interact with, and provide feedback on 3D designs. With the added value and flexibility of guest users, the price will be changing from $149/year to $249/year. License ratios associated with Basic, Premium, and Teams packages have also been updated.
