Unity is on a mission to help each artist realize their creative vision. We’re building tools that will advance the future of interactive 3D content while opening up AAA-quality possibilities.

GDC 2022 is just around the corner. And we could not be more excited to meet game artists and developers in person once again to renew our shared passion for creative expression and innovation.

Unity is committed to supporting all creators in achieving their artistic vision quickly and efficiently, without limitation. Over the past two years, we’ve been developing and refining our tools to bring content authoring technologies together – all with the aim of increased accessibility for artists everywhere, regardless of studio size.

We want to meet artists where they are. This means making our engine-agnostic technology compatible with the tools and devices that they use every day.

At GDC 2022, we want everyone to experience these tools and discover how to unlock new artistic capabilities with Unity. Whether you’re looking to create rich and vivid biomes, or highly detailed humans and animals, Unity’s tools for artists can help bring your stories to life in real-time.

Unity at GDC 2022

GDC 2022 takes place both in person at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, and virtually, between March 21–25, 2022.

The Unity booth is located on the main show floor in Moscone South (#S527 and S549), where our team of experts and artists will showcase art tools such as SpeedTree, Ziva, ArtEngine and SyncSketch, among others. We’ll be there to give you a glimpse of our latest technology and developments, as well as future releases like the Weta toolset. These are the solutions that we’re building to define new creative possibilities in visual content and real-time workflows, saving you time and money at each stage of production.

Beyond experiencing these tools in person at GDC, we will also be highlighting a number of inspirational creator success stories at our streaming booth, like how Insomniac Games and Sony Bend are using Unity’s professional artistry tools to accelerate their own art production pipelines.

Evoking real worlds: Material authoring using ArtEngine

ArtEngine allows artists to produce photorealistic content that can be used across multiple projects, and automates the tedious aspects of 3D content creation for a stronger focus on creative elements.

It automates and accelerates photoconversion to PBR materials, and features robust capabilities such as up-resing, deblur, seam removal, unwarping, color matching, and so much more.

The ArtEngine technical team will be at GDC to showcase three interactive demos surrounding our new AI-powered features, and even illustrate how Sony Bend is using ArtEngine in their AAA titles for increased productivity and material realism.

Meet ‘Emma’ – Ziva Dynamics’ photorealistic human.

Ziva and Unity are developing a roadmap to make real-time 3D face technology affordable and scalable, without the requirement of expensive HMC or volumetric capture to drive performance. At GDC 2022, explore Ziva and Unity’s technology ZivaRT, which serves to perfect 3D face models with preset or user-controlled animations, alongside a direct feed from your iPhone.

SyncSketch

For game development and art outsourcing, the ability to view and critique any model, environment, or other 3D assets in a complete 360-degree review session is a total game changer. SyncSketch is a web-based collaboration platform that delivers a real-time creative review environment without compromise.

Six out of eight of the largest AAA game studios communicate visually with SyncSketch, in real-time and from anywhere, meaning creative collaboration is just a URL away.

With the 3D Model Viewer, teams can review static or animated 3D assets directly in SyncSketch – from shading and textures to UV maps. Easily rotate 3D assets, change the lighting, mark up with notes, and share feedback on the spot.

At GDC 2022 you can meet SyncSketch’s co-founder Bernhard Haux and catch a demo of key features and tools, such as the new 3D Model Viewer. Discover firsthand how SyncSketch is enabling AAA game studios to propel their creative projects forward.

Virtual production tools for animation and capturing performance for games

Unity’s suite of virtual production technologies are equally applicable to video games as they are to cinematic and broadcast-ready linear digital content creation (DCC).

Advanced tools available in Unity such as Sequences, Cinemachine, Live Capture, Unity Face Capture, and Unity Virtual Capture are integral to game development, especially when designing, animating, and assembling cinematic cutscenes and trailers.

Learn more about these tools and their practical applications for producing cinematic content in Unity from Senior Technical Product Manager, Marc Tanenbaum.
